Oil & Gas
Our focus is to help our clients solve the technical challenges involved in producing, transporting and processing the oil and gas required to support the world's economy.
Our expertise in oil and gas production and processing facility design stretches from the wellhead to the refinery gate (and occasionally beyond). The range of services we can offer covers studies, through FEED and into detailed design projects. We are building one of the best multi-disciplinary teams in the business for this purpose.
We hope you find the expertise you are looking for.
Process and Facilities
We are a firm of engineering experts who design innovative solutions to fix the unique problems that production systems face.
We use the best software and analytical tools available in the market (from Olga to PDMS) and apply (and develop) them where required. We also understand the limitations of the packages.
Here are the types of problems that we fix:
Designing green and brownfield production facilities from pre-feasibility through to detailed design;
• Squeezing more production from existing production facilities;
• Helping reduce risks related to operating facilities;
• Helping fix operational problems;
• Resolving environmental issues;
• Developing the architecture for subsea production systems; and
• Addressing safety and system integrity problems.
PISE’s most well-known capability resides within its process and facilities engineering group (PISE has one of the largest and most experienced oil and gas process engineering groups in the UK). The group provides in-depth process engineering expertise with the capability to integrate with our clients’ sub-surface and commercial groups to develop robust life-of-field concepts.
PISE specialises in:
• Fluid characterisation
• Process scheme development / technology selection
• Process simulation (steady-state and dynamic) and optimisation
• Equipment design
• Capacity checks and performance testing
• Debottlenecking studies
• Offshore production facility design and satellite field integration
• Onshore production facility and terminal design
• Gas processing
• Process safety design / reliability studies
• Verification & project support
Flow Assurance and Pipelines
PISE appreciates that flow assurance is more than the study of fluid flow. We understand the importance of full life cycle analysis, the different types of artificial lift and the boundaries of flow modelling (and how far to push those boundaries).
We can solve clients’ scaling problems and help mitigate their corrosion concerns. PISE provides an overarching capability to link and optimise gathering systems and host/ facility interfaces both onshore and subsea. We do this through the application of extensive recognised experience, state-of-the-art tools (including PIPESIM, OLGA, PIPENET and MAXIMUS) and in-house programs to address client specific requests.
We specialise in:
• PVT fluid analysis and characterisation;
• Steady-state and transient thermo-hydraulic analyses of wells, risers, flowlines and trunk lines;
• Integrated production modelling of reservoir, wells and surface production systems;
• Detailed well modelling, including the prediction of wellhead conditions, the study of liquid loading along gas / condensate wells and the analysis of annulus pressure build-up during a well start-up;
• Assessment of flow instabilities (severe riser-based slugging/ hydrodynamic slugging) along production systems during various modes of operation;
• Slugcatcher sizing;
• Development of robust operating strategies for production systems, including start-up, shutdown/ cooldown, ramp-up, depressurisation, pigging and hydrate mitigation strategies (conventional thermodynamic inhibitors / LDHIs and active-heating systems such as bundle-type and DEH systems);
• Production chemistry issues including organic (hydrates, wax, asphaltene) and inorganic (scale) deposits, and the development of mitigation measures;
• Review of erosion/ corrosion issues and assessment of material metallurgy; and
• Design and optimisation of gas lift and water injection systems.
PISE has significant experience across a variety of challenging oil and gas developments around the world, including deepwater, HPHT and long-distance tie-backs. PISE personnel are also experienced in the execution of hydraulic surge studies for single-phase liquid pipeline systems, operability studies for long gas transmission pipelines and networks including assessment of linepack and compression requirements and studies of carbon capture and storage (CCS) concepts.
Offshore and onshore, PISE provides pipeline designs and consultancy from routing studies to operational support, across the full spectrum of fluid flow conditions, production chemistries, materials of construction and environmental parameters. Our capability extends from the sandface to the point of export to market.
Most importantly our Flow Assurance experts also understand how this discipline fits into the overall production system. This allows them to guide clients on the flow assurance cases of most importance and help focus decision making on the key case drivers. Other flow assurance companies often fail this test.
